Chromefest, The Entrance

The following “shots” were taken at a very nice weekend celebrating the new car show that is called Chromefest and run by California Cruising Club.

We arrived Saturday afternoon and parked our cars at the Waldorf Apps and wandered around Memorial Park, The Entrance and just took in the ambience of the event. Basically its designed around the very successful Wintersun theme of Rock n Roll bands and various aged dance groups jiving away. There are still a lot of the old rockers there some on crutches and some in wheelchairs although I can report that the Thunderbirders were in able bodied  mode (just). However the “rockers ” are definitely getting younger and the hair do’s were being held together by every sort of hair adhesive including brylcream.

We will be going back again next year to what will be like this year a sold out show.

Shannons Classic Eastern Creek 2009

Sydney Motorex and ASRF Hotrod Show

The 2009 Motorex / ASRF Hot rod show at Homebush was again an enjoyable weekend.

As well as a glittering array of vehicles there was entertainment all weekend. A band playing, Jon Kosmoski from House of Kolor  giving talks on the stage and  the unveiling of  6 new vehicles on Saturday with the MC of the show with John McCoy Lancaster building the crowd’s excitement as they followed him to each car or bike as it was unveiled. There was also a Shannon’s Classic Car auction on Sunday afternoon.

On Saturday night Meguiars Supercars entrants had an inspirational session with Jon Kosmoski. Also on Saturday night a new award, The Real McCoy award, was presented to Ben Gatt for his contribution to motor sport.

This weekend’s show was really four shows in one, my understanding is that the entrants are organised and separately judged in one of four categories Motorex, Street Machines, Street Rods and Meguiars Superstars.

The ASRF judging is carried out according to the Rule Book given to members (www.asrf.org.au) when they join the ASRF and one point in the book that stands out to me is that every section judged e.g. paint, trim, undercarriage etc each has points for cleanliness so it adds up to a lot of points that can be lost by not ensuring all areas are clean.

The Prince of Malaysia’s RX7 glittered with crystals and the ice blue bike gleamed.

Rawr, the charcoal 34 Ford was unbelievable and admired immensely by Mike and the others we got talking to at the show. It was given a special award by Jon Kosmoski who was impressed with the engineering as well as the car as a whole. We were told it drove into the show but has been built with no visible wiring or fuel lines.

In the Motorex section we saw George Agis’s fabulous and unique 55 Chev modified into a pick up, finishing this car was George’s tribute to his talented late son David.

I did take some photos and have added some given to me by Pat with the Thunderbird.

Next year’s show should be the best of the best as Owen Webb announced that they will allow previous Superstar winner’s to qualify for Motorex’s 10th anniversary in 2010. See you there.
